On getting into things

OR: On randomness

The old adage of being at the right place at the right time speaks to the concept of randomness - which this weekend kicked off incidentally at Circa's Randomland night (in my view a collection of club types, mascot costumes - but also mostly lineups and hallways, often together). A random mix of 90's hits followed the next night at Teranga, with music by rusty smashing into, say, Aaliyah.

How would I know at around the same time that this weird musical mixture was occurring, that an informal deal was being brokered at the Spirit of Edmonton party (or some other Great Big Sea-involved event) to take in the Big Game itself in person (sort of), and for free (really!).

And so there we were, standing in a 4th floor suite in the southeastern corner of the dome, taking it all in. The place looks not bad at all when actually filled with fans, and a UFO-like CableCam zipping around in the air.

A shame about the outcome though. Random.

career change.

I'm officially changing careers and becoming a Fixer, it has been determined. I'm going to
aim to have a fairly sophisticated style like Michael Clayton (above). Not quite as flamboyant
as Winston Wolf, say.

zee hawt-est bandz

I once again particpated in I Heart Music's 'Hottest Canadian Bands' poll, which is a fairly subjective list of the not entirely unexpected. But I agree with some of chromewaves' comments, that a band being 'hot' could actually be objectively measured in some ways, in terms of actual popularity in ticket and music sales. just sayin'.

my list:

1. Arcade Fire
2. Feist
3. Tokyo Police Club
4. The Weakerthans
5. Tegan & Sara
6. The Golden Dogs
7. Sunset Rubdown
8. Besnard Lakes
9. Malajube
10. Ghettosocks
