Dog's Breakfast

In NOW's preview of the (labouriously titled) Salad Days Dog Day Afternoon Festival, promoter Ewan Exall stated pretty clearly at having good intentions to not make yet another Corporate Rock Festival. Though Exall made true on his promise of decent food services and non-five dollar bottles of water, a thorough shakedown of all attendees for any food, drinks, or even water assured that those services would run as a necessity for those in attendance. With a security retinue that included rather comedic wall patroling guards, one had to wonder if we should be expecting performances of a Folsom Prison calibre.

Lucky for a lot of people there, the ticket price was likely close to zero, as things were, reportedley, papered to some degree (one company alone received 200 free tickets, does that signal success?). But enough bitching, I do believe the good intentions, so what about the music?

Said bag check line resulted in me hearing, but not seeing Land of Talk, who sounded as good if not much better than their already acclaimed nxne showcase last month. After securing some premium shade, Wintersleep kept the Dependent crew happy with a sun-soaked set (it is nice seeing these guys out in the sun after so many dank club shows), and Holy Fuck completed the trifecta with perfectly fitting afternoon dance grooves.

And after that? well I couldn't stay, so I'll tag off to (a somewhat apologetic?) Rayner here.

Better luck next time for them, if there is one, that is.
