summer, part II: social event of the season

In what has quickly escalated into becoming the major late summer social event here, Fake Prom brought things truly to the next level with its biggest ever incarnation on saturday.

Saddled with growing pains and a (in hindsight) regrettable decision to hold the event at Lee's Palace last year, FP rebounded in a big way with the selection of the famed Palais Royale as the venue this year. Imagery leading up to the event combined old-time images of Palais with subtly included fantasial images, and in turn the crowd in attendance with many many princesses (paper bag and otherwise), as well as a few wizards, and one Ringwraith.

awesome!

summer part II, still winning!

people really DO want to remember the 90's!

it's a rush playing a track that gets cheers and piles more people on the dance floor. Co-op, pictured above, is a natural at this.

summer, part II: events

Extermination Dawn

A day outdoors would have been more than sufficient with the wonderful 2nd Annual ALL CAPS park show on saturday, which was bigger and better than last year. I hope it's something I'll take my kids to one day (a very long time from now).

A night at an alternative venue might have been more than efficient with the Radius & Helena show at Cinecycle, which is arguably Toronto's best small venue for shows.

How about combining the two?

That happened even later on, with Extermination Night, which re-appeared once again, this time at Jackson's Point, at the very tip of Leslie Spit, which appears to be the Southernmost point of Toronto, just passing Centre Island(!). Accessible only on foot or by bike, the trip down after Cinecycle was long (but thankfully fuelled with fresh doses of caffeine), and very worth it. Nothing comes close to matching the aesthetic and envrionment of Extermination, and the hardy dozens that trekked out (and the LONG ride home) were not disappointed.
